Team Guardia is a passionate group of innovators from IIMT College of Engineering who believe that technology can and should serve humanity in its most crucial moments — when safety is at stake. United by their vision of making the world safer for women, students, and travelers, this team combines expertise across AI, IoT, full-stack development, and mobile technologies.
Their strength lies in empathy-driven innovation. Each member brings a unique perspective — from IoT engineering and AI development to frontend design and project management — working together to build something that saves lives, not just solves problems. Guardia isn’t just another safety app — it’s an intelligent guardian that never sleeps.
What are they building
SURAKSHA is an AI-powered smart wearable band integrated with a mobile application to form a unified, real-time safety and emergency response ecosystem.
A single tap or secret voice command can instantly alert trusted contacts and verified responders — even when there’s no internet connection. Through GSM-based alerts, GPS tracking, and AI-driven evidence collection, SURAKSHA ensures that users are never alone in an emergency.
What truly sets it apart is its community responder network, connecting nearby verified helpers (like delivery agents or campus guards) to reach the user faster than conventional emergency services.
Tech Stack Overview:
Hardware: ESP32 microcontroller, GPS, GSM module, motion & heart-rate sensors, microphone array
Mobile App: Flutter, Android SDK
Backend: Node.js, Firebase, AWS Lambda
Database: MongoDB, Firebase Realtime DB
APIs & Services: Twilio (SMS), Google Maps API, AWS IoT Core, TensorFlow Lite (voice/face recognition)
This hybrid setup ensures that SURAKSHA operates seamlessly — across online, offline, and low-signal environments — offering continuous, dependable protection.
Key Features:
Offline SOS Mode: Sends alerts via GSM/SMS when the internet is unavailable.
Voice Command Activation: Secret activation with predefined keywords.
Live Location Tracking: GPS coordinates shared in real time with contacts and responders.
Auto Evidence Capture: Automatically starts audio/video recording when triggered.
Safe Route Navigation: Maps safer travel routes using Google Maps AI insights.
Community Responder Network: Mobilizes nearby verified helpers for rapid response.
Cloud Dashboard: Enables authorities to monitor incidents and analyze safety data.
Why are they building or to solve what?
In India, personal safety remains a pressing concern — especially for women and youth. Emergencies often occur in moments when help is unavailable or connectivity fails. Most current safety solutions depend solely on internet access, leaving users helpless in offline conditions.
Team The Register saw this gap as an opportunity to innovate. SURAKSHA was conceived as a hybrid ecosystem that bridges the digital and physical worlds — capable of functioning without network dependency, while connecting users to real human responders.
By combining IoT hardware, AI-powered analytics, and community collaboration, SURAKSHA transforms technology into a reliable safety companion — proactive, adaptive, and deeply human-centered.
Scope
SURAKSHA envisions a future where technology anticipates danger before it escalates — alerting, informing, and coordinating help within seconds. Its mission is to become India’s most trusted, AI-driven personal safety ecosystem.
Planned Innovations:
Emotion & Biometric Analytics: Detect stress or distress patterns using heart-rate and motion sensors.
Predictive AI Models: Analyze contextual data to identify potential risk zones.
Blockchain-Based Verification: Securely log incidents to prevent tampering.
Government & NGO Integration: Direct linkage with 112 helplines, police dashboards, and women’s safety networks.
Next-Gen Wearables: Smart rings and pendants for discreet SOS activation.
Campus & Transit Integration: Partnerships with universities and public transport for collective safety management.
SURAKSHA aims to evolve beyond a device — into a nationwide movement for connected confidence, where every individual has instant access to protection through innovation and community.
Market Opportunity
With over 50 million working women, students, and urban travelers in India, the demand for real-time personal safety solutions is skyrocketing. The country’s smart safety device market — backed by initiatives like the Nirbhaya Fund and CSR-driven safety programs — is projected to exceed ₹2,500 crore in the coming years.
SURAKSHA is strategically positioned to lead this space with its blend of affordability, reliability, and offline-first resilience.
Business Model & Revenue Streams
Product Sales: Affordable IoT safety bands via e-commerce and institutional channels.
Subscription Plans: Premium safety services for individuals, families, and corporates.
B2G & NGO Collaborations: Deployments under government and social welfare programs.
API Integrations: Partnerships with mobility, logistics, and campus security platforms.
The Vision Ahead
Team The Register is building more than a product — they’re building trust through technology.
By merging AI precision with human empathy, SURAKSHA transforms personal safety from a reactive response into a proactive shield. It’s not just an emergency tool — it’s a digital guardian that stands beside every user, every moment, everywhere.
SURAKSHA represents a new era of SafetyTech for Bharat — where innovation, accessibility, and compassion converge to create a world where everyone feels, and truly is, safer.
